Aungst Wins CAP Distinguished Medical Student Award

Dr. Campbell and Jenna Aungst

Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) announces that Jenna Aungst, OMS-III, has been awarded the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Distinguished Medical Student Award.

As president of the Pathology Student Interest Group (PathSig) and vice president of the Virtual PathSig at LMU-DCOM, Aungst has increased student interest in pathology. Her efforts have brought numerous pathologists to speak at PathSig meetings.

Aungst has a strong interest in forensic pathology. She is an active National Association of Medical Examiners member with extensive experience in the forensic pathology and medical examiner fields. Her portfolio includes multiple presentations and publications.

In addition to her academic achievements, Aungst has organized activities for DCOM medical students, including a visit to the Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta and a forensic anthropology workshop with the University of Tennessee.

Aungst was nominated for the CAP award by Dr. Teresa Campbell, associate professor and chair of pathology at LMU-DCOM, and Dr. Paul Uribe, deputy chief medical examiner in Fort Bend County, Texas.

“Jenna has been an amazing force in garnering interest in pathology,” said Campbell. “I’ve never seen more students interested in pathology since I’ve been at DCOM.”

The CAP Distinguished Medical Student Award is given to a medical student with outstanding achievement, aptitude, or interest in pathology. The award includes a $250 honorarium.
